Rickey Jackson upbeat after surgery, facing challenges

What else would you expect from Rickey Jackson?

One of the most fierce competitors ever in the history of the NFL, Jackson carries that competitive spirit with him in life on a daily basis.

Early Wednesday morning, Jackson underwent surgery to relieve bleeding on his brain and to relieve pressure which was caused by a recent fall.

Jackson is confident that he will recover, though it will not be an easy process.

“I am all right,” Jackson said. “I’m going to make it.”

The former Saints great admitted that the pain and pressure after the fall became too much to bear.

“It has been a fight the last three or four weeks since it happened,” Jackson said. “They (doctors) told me I could not wait any longer. I have known about probably having to do this for two weeks. This is not something you really want to do but I had to do it. I did not have any choice.”

Jackson is resting comfortably and is now out of intensive care.

“They (doctors) said everything went well,” Jackson said. “I am sedated and with many medicines so I will be a little on and off but I will be back.”

The City Champ is taking comfort in his surroundings.

“All my children are with me,” Jackson said. “That makes me feel better right there. It means a lot for me to have them here. I love them dearly.

Jackson had a message for his fans and well wishers as well.

“I appreciate all your all your prayers,” Jackson said. “I’m telling myself I will be okay. I will know more tomorrow. I’m trusting God. That is the best place to be.”
